He believes that job security is an obsolete idea that no longer applies in today’s business world. A few generations ago, it was a different story when people considered that once they had a job, they were set up for life. Businesses survived for longer, competition from other emerging countries wasn’t as tough, so employees felt secure about their future. Plus once they retired the pension was worth having and Social Security and Medicare were there to help them through the hard times as well. Today we don’t have any of these luxuries.

Robert believes that although there are plenty of jobs around and he sees loads of ‘help wanted’ signs everywhere, the problem is long term financial survival. The days of lifetime job security and the chances of your investments growing 20% per year are long gone, because even the big corporations simply can’t give these guarantees any more.

It has been said that 20-30% of what is produced in America will soon be produced in China, so America has to produce for less or lose. So the idea of high paying jobs and gold plated pension funds, even with plenty of work available, just isn’t going to happen because the Chinese are clever, very hard working and willing to work for much less.
